Shine 2024 Wedding Photography lighting workshop

I recently attended an awesome wedding photography workshop hosted by Neil Redfern and Helen Williams (two ultra inspirational teachers of skillsets and wedding photographers in their own rights) called Shine in Llangollen North Wales, to keep my creative lighting technique skills honed to the max and learn various lighting techniques…as photography is something you can NEVER learn too much about and I feel you can always better yourself no matter what your skill levels and experience in the field and better yourself as a wedding photographer.

Using ambient lighting and balancing it with off camera flash is a real skill and not easy to pull off-a lot of wedding photographers just give up and call themselves ‘natural light photographers’.

The 3 day workshop proved invaluable and really enhanced my knowledge and skills in lighting and technique more than ever and will no doubt be adding to my wedding photography portfolio in the coming weeks using my lighting techniques learnt. I really enjoyed the last day of the course as we got split up into groups and had to think of ideas and how to light each shot.

Here’s a selection of my favourite images from the course!

FYI if it rains on your wedding day it’ll be a bonus as I can do some amazing back lit shots. If there’s no sunset on your day and you’re after a dramatic sunset wedding portrait using lighting - bring it on!
